WHAT TO DO AND SEE IN SANTIAGO http://www.joseestay.com/tours.html
Please ask Jose to submit more information about getting home and local life instructions.
Jose can send you informational sheets specially prepared by him for your trip planning.
Please keep in mind that if you want to the wineries you must book 1 day in advance.
Most  Museums are free on sundays but closed on Mondays  .
Next holidays are http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_holidays_in_Chile .
From october to march use plenty of sunblock. Santiago weather is very dry and sunny.
Metro station system as follows.
Remember you will be staying near BAQUEDANO station and at the crossroads of the urban area,
and close to all cultural and bohemian crowded sites .
Transantiago, the new bus/metro system requires a BIP card, bought at Metro stations
In this link click on the hubs and you will get map of surrounding area http://www.metrosantiago.cl/planos.php

If you come for a short stay these would be my reccomendations:

1st day: take the new double-deck red buses for drop in-drop off system at main sites
http://www.cityramachile.cl/eeuu/index.htm or city tours with http://www.turistour.com/index.php?language=2
or walking tours departing Casa Colorada near Plaza de Armas

2nd day: a trip to famous Valparaiso port "Unesco world heritage" and neighbor resort city Vina del Mar

3rd day: museums Precolumbian, Historia Nacional, San Francisco church colonial, Santiago at Casa Colorada,

4th day: explore these other sites Palacio Cousino, Santa Lucia and San Cristobal hills,
Brasil and Yungay barrios (neighborhoods) including Barrio Concha Y Toro

5th day and afterwards depending of time: day trips to Wineries (Concha y Toro, Cousino Macul, Undurraga),

Isla Negra Pablo Neruda coastal home, La Ligua textile town, Farellones ski resort and summer trips, etc.

Ski season started june 7th 2008
It is easy to reach the 4 ski resorts 1 hour and 30 minutes from town.
Vans leave Skitotal company office , 3 blocks from Escuela Militar metro station, at 7am and 730am

MY CHILE WEBSITE http://www.joseestay.com/chile.html

Before leaving home plan accurately your trips around Chile and Latin America .
Please keep in mind the your round-the-world-tickets have several usefull options so ask and ask about the rules.
If you need to reissue tickets in Chile you will need extra time for that.
Chile airlines have several low-budget options: LAN http://www.lan.com/promociones/data/sudamerica/cl/cl/nvo_lan.html,
Sky Airlines and Aerolineas del Sur.
Within South America LAN is also a great option
http://www.lan.com/promociones/data/europa/todo_europa/saairpass.html , also GOL www.voegol.com
Travelling by bus is just great , specially with TurBus www.turbus.com

IMPORTANT:

Airport taxes sometimes are included in your ticket.
Verify Chile holidays as cities are very quiet and businesses are closed. Mondays museums closed.
Travelling out of Santiago , or into Santiago friday and sunday nights will be very very busy.
Please keep in mind Santiago is a busy, crowded, noisy city.
Staying in a private home will also included the typical noises of a condo building.
American citizens pay US$ 130, Canadian citizens now pay US$ 132 at Immigration Kiosk in Santiago . Australians,
New Zealand and Mexico also pay tis fee. Have cash in hand or credit card.
Trips to the wineries and out of town must be planned at least 1 day in advance
If you are crossing overland to/from Mendoza/Argentina you need to verify if the crossing is opne,
between may and september due snow.
Current Weather available at http://www.meteochile.cl/reg13.html
Weather in Valparaiso/Vina del Mar at http://www.meteochile.cl/reg05.html
Do not bring USA Dollars year 2001 serial number AB or CB as they are not accepted in Chile
If you have travel plans before or after Santiago , let me know as maybe I can guide you or provide ideas or hints.
Mondays museums are closed. They are open from tuesdays to sundays, and sundays they are free.
If you need to book a winery tour, city tour, etc you need to book at least the day before,
mondays to fridays office hours from 9am to 6pm.
Please find most of Home Rules, Santiago Tourist Sites, Chile Cuisine and Day Trips information needed in the
